Adrian Ensor

This is a portrait of my friend, Adrian Ensor,

a renowned darkroom master printer and fine art photographer, captured in 2019. Adrian is celebrated for his expertise in analogue photography and his ability to create stunning prints that bring images to life.

This particular portrait photograph was later featured in his book, Adrian Ensor en los Senderos de Federico García Lorca, showcasing his artistic journey and inspiration from the Spanish poet. It’s an honour to have my work included in such an intimate collection.

I vividly remember the day we captured this image. We met at Adrian’s home, which also served as his office and darkroom—a space filled with creativity and the tools of his craft. For someone so accustomed to being behind the lens, Adrian was not entirely used to being in front of it. Yet, the session unfolded beautifully.

I relied on just two rolls of film during the shoot, as the atmosphere was truly inspiring, and I knew I had captured the essence of Adrian early on. There’s a timeless quality to working with film in portrait photography, especially in an environment charged with the spirit of artistry and collaboration. The result is a portrait that not only reflects Adrian’s personality but also honours his legacy in the world of photography and darkroom printing.
